Short answers to the things that go wrong most often. If none of these fit, contact us — open tellmint, tap your avatar, open Settings, tap Contact Us.
Try this first
Before you read further, try these — they fix the majority of small glitches in under a minute:
- Pull the feed down to refresh. This re-syncs entries and clears most "stuck" states.
- Check your internet. A dropped connection silently causes most upload, sync, and chat errors.
- Force-close and reopen tellmint. Swipe it off the recents list, tap the icon again. Solves stutters and stale screens.
- Confirm the right account. Profile sheet (top-right avatar) → check the email. If you're on Free but expected Pro, tap Restore purchases.
- Check permissions. Settings → Permissions. The mic must be granted to record; notifications must be granted to get reminders.

Recording problems
The record button does nothing
- Check the microphone permission: Settings → Permissions → Microphone. If it's denied, tap to request it again or enable it in your device's app settings.
- You may be at your monthly quota. Check the Profile sheet → quota card.
My recording went silent or cut off early
- Some Android skins (MIUI, HyperOS, One UI Ultra) silence the mic when the screen turns off. Enable Developer Options → Stay awake on the recording device, or keep the screen on.
- If you backgrounded the app and the OS killed tellmint, recording stops and saves whatever was captured up to that moment.
A recording is stuck "processing"
- Wait briefly and pull the feed down to refresh.
- Check the entry card for a partial or error badge, if processing genuinely failed you can edit the fields by hand or delete and re-record.
Notifications not arriving
- Check notification permission: Settings → Notifications. A red banner appears if it's denied.
- For exact time reminders on Android, grant Schedule exact alarms (a row in Notifications when it's missing).
- On MIUI / HyperOS / One UI: whitelist tellmint in battery optimization and autostart settings, or the OS can silently kill scheduled alarms.
- Digests use inexact timing and may arrive 5–15 minutes late by design.
Sign-in problems
Google sign-in fails
- Ensure you're signed into Google on the device itself. Tellmint uses the Google account from the device, not a form.
- A recently updated Play Services install sometimes fixes transient sign-in errors.
Magic-link email didn't arrive
- Check spam. Magic links come from a tellmint sender.
- The link expires quickly, request a new one if it's older than a few minutes.
- Opening the link on a different device is fine; tellmint will ask for your email again as a security check.
I signed out and now my entries are gone
- You were signed in as a guest and signed out before attaching a real account. Guest sign-out is destructive, the data is gone. Next time, link a Google or email account from the profile sheet before signing out so your entries follow you.
Purchases
"Sign in to a real account before buying"
- Anonymous users cannot purchase. Sign in with Google or email link first.
I upgraded but my plan shows Free
- Tap Restore purchases on the profile sheet.
- Make sure you're signed into the same Google account you bought with.
- Subscription events can take a few seconds to propagate.
I bought a top-up but my balance didn't go up
- Wait a few seconds and pull to refresh the profile sheet.
- If it still hasn't landed after a minute, contact us with your Google Play order ID.
Sync
My entries on another device look outdated
- Pull down to refresh the feed.
- Make sure both devices are signed into the same account.
Offline recording is "pending upload" forever
- Check your connection.
- If a recording has exhausted its 3 retries, it stays as a local error until you delete or re-record it, this is intentional to avoid endless failed retries.
App behavior
Feed is slow to load / scroll stutters
- Close tellmint fully (swipe it off the recents list) and reopen.
- Restart your phone if the slowdown persists, it rebuilds the local cache.
- If it's still slow, reinstall tellmint. Your cloud data will re-download on first sign-in.
Theme changes don't stick
- The change applies instantly but is written to the cloud in the background. If the write fails, tellmint reverts and the snackbar explains. Try again with a working connection.
Home screen widget stopped working
- On MIUI / HyperOS / One UI: battery optimization or autostart was probably revoked. Re-enable for tellmint.
- Open the app once; launchers sometimes hide widgets for apps that haven't launched recently.
Data and privacy
I need a copy of my data
- Settings → Your Data → Export My Data. JSON + CSV, once per 24 hours.
I want to delete everything
- Settings → Your Data → Delete Account. This is permanent and immediate on our side, there is no account-recovery window. Export your data first if you want a copy, and cancel your Google Play subscription separately.
