Plans and billing

Buying, upgrading, restoring

How purchases work in tellmint. Subscriptions are handled through Google Play, so checkout and management follow Play's rules. Tellmint uses RevenueCat under the hood to sync your entitlement between Play and your account.

Before you buy

You must be signed in with a durable account: Google or email link. Anonymous users see a gate: "Sign in to a real account before buying."

This is deliberate. If you paid as a guest and reinstalled the app, there would be no reliable way to restore your purchase. Requiring a durable account makes sure your subscription follows you across devices.

How to upgrade

  1. Open the Profile sheet (tap your avatar).
  2. Tap Upgrade to Pro or Max: or open Settings → Your Data → Mint Edition and tap the upsell if you're reaching for PDF export.
  3. Google Play checkout appears. Confirm.
  4. A snackbar confirms success, and your plan badge updates within a few seconds.

You can also upgrade from the onboarding plan screen the first time you see it.

How to restore purchases

If you reinstalled tellmint, switched phones, or signed back in after a sign-out:

  1. Open the Profile sheet.
  2. Tap Restore purchases.
  3. Make sure you're signed into the same account you bought with, both tellmint and Google Play.

Restores only work with a durable account.

Managing your subscription

Tellmint never manages your subscription itself, cancellation, pause, and renewal are handled inside Google Play.

  • Profile sheet → Manage subscription opens Play's subscription page.
  • You can cancel at any time. Your plan stays active until the current period ends.

What you'll see during the lifecycle

SituationWhat the quota card shows
PurchasePlan badge switches immediately; quotas jump to the new plan.
RenewalSilent and automatic.
Cancellation"Cancelled, expires [date]." Plan stays active until that date.
Billing issue"Payment failed. Update your payment method by [date]." A short grace period follows.
RefundPlan ends immediately and drops to Free.

Common purchase errors

ErrorWhat it means
"Sign in to a real account before buying"You're anonymous, Google/email sign-in first.
"Subscription not available right now"Play is still propagating a recent change, or the product isn't available in your region yet. Usually clears on its own shortly.
"Purchase failed. Please try again."Network hiccup, declined card, or Play Store issue. Retry usually works.
"No previous purchases found"Restore didn't find anything tied to the currently signed-in account.

Good to know

  • Offerings vs. direct products. Even if RevenueCat "offerings" fail to load, the app can still purchase products directly through Google Play. You won't usually see an offerings error.
  • Mid-month upgrades charge immediately and reset your quota to the new plan's monthly limit. Mid-month downgrades apply at the end of the current period.
  • Tellmint does not use a paywall sheet: it uses its own plan selection screen with a sign-in gate for anonymous users.
  • Tax / VAT is handled by Google Play at checkout. EUR prices shown are base, your receipt may differ.
